Philosophy

The classroom and workplace should be an engaging, balanced, and motivating “second space” for people. Creating community and building meaningful relationships drive everything I do. I believe with solid community and excellent service, people can engage and learn in wonderful ways. See below to discover how I did this in my previous classroom settings.

My Former Classroom

Giving students the chance to explore and gather the knowledge to meet Florida State Standards through real-life connections and project-based practice is key to instilling a love of learning in each child. This is all accomplished in an organized learning environment, designed to highlight and support the lessons they learn each day with guidance and support from the teacher, using assessment and data to monitor progress and meet the needs of every child.

I set academic goals with each student individually, track guided and independent growth, and create opportunities to celebrate each student and our learning community as a whole.

Management

Every child should feel safe and welcome in their classroom. My classroom management style centers around identifying every student’s needs and maintaining clear, consistent teacher expectations. I strive to create a fair and balanced classroom by ensuring that each student has what they need to meet success. With my experience and training in programs such as Gasser's Choice Theory and Covey's Leader In Me, I help students practice self-awareness and self-regulation to empower each child to make positive choices that benefit themselves and the community. When a student makes a mistake, I utilize a blend of Love and Logic and Choice Theory to address the situation, help the child refocus, and cultivate a Growth Mindset which encourages the child to learn and improve academically and behaviorally at every opportunity.
